E-CO2 Attend Cereals 2014 – The arable event

E-CO2 consultants Andrew Wynne and Chris Davies made the trip to Cambridgeshire to visit the UK’s premier arable event, Cereals 2014, this year held near Duxford. Overhead, the sun beat down as they took the opportunity to meet existing clients and make new contacts.

In the conference room there were a number of panel lead discussions including one entitled: “The Greening of the CAP – does this benefit production in the UK or mainland Europe? Why should farmers compete for their share of the Pillar Two cake?”. The panel included NFU chairman Meurig Raymond and Secretary of State for the Environment and North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson. Paterson having made the announcement the previous day relating to greening of the CAP and what the cross compliance requirements would be, there was much debate between the panel of farmers and policy makers as well as questions from the audience.

Ex rugby international, Phil Vickery and current Wales and Lions captain Sam Warburton were at the event supporting the Prince’s Countryside Fund charity and HSBC respectively.

Our consultants finished up the day by attending a reception and networking event hosted by McDonald’s in their ‘Inspire Pavilion’ at the invite of Nina Pritchard. An initiative designed to encourage young people into the agriculture sector, it was a good opportunity to meet with some of the other organisations that represent the industry and produce or process food retailed by McDonald’s.
