E-CO2 attended the Alltech Global Dairy and Beef in Deauville, France

E-CO2 attended the Alltech Global Dairy and Beef in Deauville, France from August 30th-September 2nd. The conference was attended by 700 delegates from 43 countries representing 500,000 cattle. The key message throughout the conference was ‘E=P+S’, that through improved efficiency farmers can improve both their profitability and sustainability. Discussions examined the current industry and looked at future trends, specifically addressing how farmers and producers can stay ahead of the curve though monitoring, embracing technology and business innovation. Issues such as; labour management, investment costs, achieving productivity whilst maintaining fertility, the industry’s market and business planning were also discussed.

Sylvie Andrieu (Ruminant Solutions Deployment Team Manager) and Kevin Tuck (Managing Director of Alltech, Ireland) discussed the findings of the Dairy and Beef ‘What If?’ Tool, showcasing E-CO2‘s software and the success of the project in improving both the carbon footprint and the profitability of the farms within the project. The on-farm issues identified were feed conversion, lameness, mastitis, yields and culling. The average savings found for the 58 dairy farms were a €55k increase in profits per farm and a 7,938 tonnes reduction in carbon across all farms. The average financial savings found on the farms after 4 months were near, or much better than, those predicted using the What If?’ Tool, highlighting the accuracy and credibility of the ‘What If?’ Tool. Throughout the event farmers showed positive interest in the project.

Andy Wynne presented to both the Dairy and Beef attendees covering us as a company, our work with Alltech and other clients. He also had the hard task of highlighting the importance and opportunity of carbon footprinting to a farm’s business, through emphasising the links between carbon, efficiency and profits with a particular emphasis on feed; a task in which he excelled. The discussions and questions following the presentation showed farmer interest and open mind toward the potential benefits of carbon footprinting to their business.
