Harper Adams Placement Student Joins the E-CO2 Team

Hannah joined the E-CO2 team in August 2014 to carry out a one year industrial placement as part of her degree, FdSc Agriculture at Harper Adams University. Her Agricultural course covers a wide range of topics including; livestock production systems, crop production systems, agricultural science, farm business management, agricultural mechanisation etc. Once having completed her foundation degree, she then hopes to complete a one year ‘top up’ course, which will give her a BSc degree in Agriculture with the option of specialising in a chosen area if she wishes to. She grew up on her family livestock farm in Wiltshire where she has developed a strong interest in the beef and dairy industries.

The E-CO2 team were so friendly and welcoming when I came to be interviewed and with their farm level focus and fantastic links to big players like McDonald’s, Arla and Alltech within the beef and dairy industries I was happy to accept their offer of a placement job and was very enthusiastic to begin working with the E-CO2 team. To date I have helped with a wide range of projects, working on; data analysis, industry research, farmer report design, digital marketing, and marketing material. From this I have increased my understanding of farming systems, data work and the processes of improving efficiencies at farm level.

In the remaining months of my placement with E-CO2 I hope to improve my awareness and understanding of the agricultural sector as a whole, as I gain an insight into the various players and factors affecting the industry, on-farm as well as up the supply chain. With E-CO2 also having products for the sheep, poultry and pig industries I hope my knowledge of these farming systems will increase. I hope to get the chance of developing my experience in various aspects of the business including on-farm assessing, report writing and design work. I further look forward to helping to develop a marketing, sales and training strategy for the team which will hopefully help the business moving forward. I am also looking forward to going out on farm to see E-CO2’s farm assessors in action as well as being trained in Cow Signals by our master trainer James Wynne.

Having this fantastic placement year behind me will stand me in great stead for the future.
